After reading and reviewing the chapter and the first responders' posts, I decided I wanted to focus my research on an article that gave a lot of information about motivating your students. The website I found on teachervision.com gives a very well-rounded and full insight to the different facets that go into motivating your students. One part that I found particularly interesting is when it said that in order to have students that are motivated to succeed, you need to emphasize and support the expectations you have for them. You can be clear in your expectations for your students by providing feedback, offering individualized instruction, having them set their own goals, and helping them see the connection between effort and result. Another piece of the website that I found helpful was the breakdown of needs for students in different age groups such as elementary schoolers need warmth, support, assurance and middle schoolers need group membership, peer acceptance, and so on. I think understanding the needs of your students and being able to satisfy those needs is vital before you can truly teach them.
