Motivating Students to Read

Since this weeks reading was about motivating students to enjoy reading, I thought that this article on Education World was pretty interesting. 25 Ideas to Motivate Young Readers by Gary Hopkins has multiple games and activities to do in your classroom that will make students want to read. My personal favorite activity was "Read to the Principal." I really liked this activity because not only will it allow the students to get to know the principal on a more personal level, but if there are only one or two students going to the office everyday they will feel pretty special on their day. This will motivate them to want to be better readers so that they will be able to read to the principal. All of the activities on this page are really great, check them out!
